Bob and Helen sent us a listing of and comments about their favorite restaurants.
PV Area Restaurants
We were disappointed in the caliber of the food this time
although I know that you enjoyed the Thanksgiving feast on the beach. We
used to like Punta Arena but that is right in the middle of the construction
area and hence closed. Many times it is what you order. I usually
order seafood as the meat dishes are usually bad especially at
Tramonto. Anyway it is fun to go outside the resort and find good
Mexican restaurants. We have been to many so here is our list of ones that
we would recommend. We are hoping that Nayar will attract many good
1. My favorite that has a wonderful seafood dinner
is El Patio in Mismaloya. You really need a car as a taxi ride would be
very expensive. Address 5 de Mayo #570 Mismaloya Tel 01 322
228-0163. The owner is Abrahan Estrada and it is a family affair. If
driving go to Mismaloya and turn left at the Barcalo Hotel which is well
marked. As you turn left there is a fork. Take the right fork and go
through the little village for about 1/2 mile or more. It is on your right
and there is a sign. Vrey reasonable priced.
2. Senor Mister Pepe's in PV. It is up in the hills
with a great view of PV from the patio where you can and should eat.
Address Basilio Badillo #518. Tel 22-22-732. It is on the top floor.
Family run restaurant The owner claims he is related to Abrahan at El
Patio. The meat is also very good here. The food is very good.
Not cheap but not too expensive. Great ambience and food. Can take a
3.Tacuba aka Victors Place. Very good for
lunch. It is right on the marina Address Condominio Las Palmas Local 9
Marina Vallarta. Tel 221-2808. Good Mexican and sea food and Victor
usually gives free tequila shots.
4. For great tacos and a very unusual spot you
need to go to "Tacos on the Street" It is in La Cruz. If driving
take Hwy 200 past Bucerias to the top of the hill and take the offramp towards
La Cruz and Punta Mita. At the first stop light (about 2 miles) turn
left. The first street is Robalo. Turn right and go down about
3 blocks and turn left on Huachinango. You will see tables set on the
street and you will know you are there. They are only open on Wed. Sat,
and Sun evenings beginning at 5PM. They serve only tacos and
quesadillas. Bring your own beer and wine but they do have soft
drinks. It is a family affair. The tacos are small so you just keep
on ordering. Itr is right in the middle of a village and a real experience
and the tacos are good.
5. One of my wife's sisters winters in Bucerias so we know
lots of the restaurants there and there a number of good ones.
- Famars On the corner of
Hwy 200 and Av. Estaciones in the middle of town. Family run. Great huge
margaritas and good fajitas.
- Mezzogiorno Avenida del
Pacifico 33 Tel 329-298-0350. Del Pacifico is the street right on
the beach that has a number of restaurants. Mezzogiorno is towards the end
from the square. Food is good but not cheap.
-Dugarel Plays Also on del
Pacifico 329-298-1757 Food is OK and price is reasonable. Many
people really like it.
- Two good places are Rollies and
7. Near the resort is La Laguna. Good seafood
. They also have a restaurant Mariscos Tinos in downtown PV near the
Hope this is a help.

Thanks Bob and Helen. Great comments and good insights.
Here is the first of several iterations concerning restaurants in the Puerto Vallarta region. This first list is based upon Yahoo group members. It is interesting that many of the top restaurants in this list are not listed in other top PVR restaurant lists. We believe the difference lies in the tastes and preferences of the voters in each list. Authenticity, price, food preferences, etc. make the top restaurants in one list different from the top restaurants in another list.
So, here is the first list of top 15 restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. Let us know your thoughts.
We ate at La Palapa on November 3, 2008. On the beach eating Vallarta Ceviche with a Pacifico - what a way to start a two week vacation. Food was terrific and we will return on our next trip.
Cafe des Artistes is great, but a bit expensive. Our new found friends told us to eat at the Bistro in Cafe des Artistes. Set menu, a multi-course meal and wine for about $40 US per person. They said the food was terrific and a great value.
We were not able to check this out. Has anyone else who would like to share?
Although we planned on eating at many of these during our November trip, we found ourselves in other areas. Maybe our next trip to Puerto Vallarta will include eating at many of these restaurants. If so, we will let you know about our favorites.
